Laura Murphy, sex positive therapist in St Paul MN.

Laura Murphy (she/her), MA, LAMFT

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I can help!

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by big changes in our lives and uncertainty in the world around us. We can all experience symptoms of anxiety and depression. You don’t have to figure it all out alone!

If you are ready to heal from past experiences and find your confidence, I can help. I bring warmth and understanding to every session and put your life experiences and hopes for the future at the heart of our work together.

I am passionate about helping people navigate their life challenges in a wholehearted, embodied, and connected way. People who work with me relearn how to trust and listen to themselves. Couples who work with me learn to notice and interrupt the things that get in the way of the connection and communication they are longing for.

How I Work

I use attachment theory, feminist theory, and mindfulness in my work and have additional training in helping folks navigate sexual concerns. I embrace a strengths-based, sex-positive, queer-affirming and trauma-informed approach. I also have training in Gottman Method couples therapy (levels 1 & 2). The most important part of my job is to help you build and keep your sense of safety in a world where so much is unsafe, especially for those with marginalized identities.

I have a particular interest in working with people adjusting to life transitions (including blending families, menopause, and the constant transitions of parenting), people practicing (or considering practicing) various forms of non-monogamy, and people moving through grief and loss. I specialize in helping people address sexual concerns, including understanding and appreciating their own sexuality and working through couple’s sexual issues, desire discrepancy, infidelity, and sexual trauma.

My Background

I hold a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in corporate America, primarily managing projects and leading people. My first career showed me how our relational and mental well-being impact our lives. Now I bring my experience navigating relational and practical complexity to my work with couples, families, and individuals.
